Pressrelease

Wind of change is coming in strong and it’s coming from the south. From their base in Malmö, a tech community Foo Café now opens a branch in Linköping.

The mission? To close the skill gap within the IT sector and allow more individuals to connect with the wider tech group!

Knowledge sharing meets corporate needs - while having fun!
It’s all about meeting in the open - are you an employer who is looking to hire a new recruit? Maybe try something new in your employer branding and marketing strategy? Foo café does exactly that - provide a safe space for companies to meet software enthusiasts, all along while socialising in a relaxed supportive environment, over some pizzas and beers (the marriage that can’t do any wrong - especially when both are free!). Over 12 years, a community of passionate programmers and coders at Foo Café grew, and so did the list of corporate sponsors seeking to meet these brilliant minds, willing to pay a yearly fee to be a part of Foo café’s community events.

Saab first to partner with Foo Café
Foo Café in Linköping is off to a good start, having partnered up with the largest private employer in the region Saab. Together, they have conceptualised LaunchPad which will be part of an ongoing partnership - throughout 2025, the two will run a series of four events dedicated to sharing knowledge with the software community. For their first event on March 6th participants will be introduced to the wonderful world of software testing at Saab, and how Saab does both traditional testing and flight testing.

“Testing is obviously a very important part of software development, and as you can imagine, testing software that is supposed to fly high up in the air is not something we take lightly.”, says Olof Sundin, Director of Software Strategy at Saab Aeronautics.

Partnering up with Foo Café also opens new opportunities for Saab as a part of their employer branding.

"Saab is one of the largest employers in the region, and while most people may think about Saab as a builder of large, noisy machines, we are also very much a software company. We have a large number of software developers - hundreds, if not thousands - working in different projects.”, points Olof.

For Linköping and Mjärdevi, with support from Internetstiftelsen
Partnership with Saab through LaunchPad allows Foo Café to do something great for the software community, and showcase the talent there is in the region. Internetstiftelsen who runs Goto 10 arena in Mjärdevi - Foo’s new base in Linköping - has expressed their support and provides space for all four events.
Olof Sundin: "We at Saab see LaunchPad as a golden opportunity to both share what we do with the software community and of course learn from others.”

He adds: “I am very much looking forward to March 6th and I hope to see a lot of software geeks there, both students and professionals!”. Be sure to save the date for more upcoming LaunchPad events with Saab: March 6th - Software Testing. Sign up open: https://foocafe.org/event/software-testing-saab
