Things That Sound Easy, But Will Crash Your App (PostgreSQL Edition)

On a developer's machine, everything works, it's fast and forgiving. Your simple queries and schema changes work perfectly. You read the documentation, it works on your database, but once the code or migration hits the production environment - with real scale, concurrency, and advanced setups - a lot of these "simple things" can suddenly lead to critical production incidents. It's the operations that sounded simple in documentation or in theory that turn into real nightmares.

During this talk, we will peek behind the curtains to understand why and how seemingly simple operations become hard work. The goal is to learn the (sometimes) hidden cost of zero-downtime deployments. And maybe, just maybe, have a little less friction between developers and DBAs.

Speaker:

Radim Marek - is a seasoned professional with more than two decades of experience managing mission-critical, high-availability, and high-throughput systems. His journey from being initially wary of databases to becoming a database enthusiast drives his educational mission: the **"boringSQL"** concept. Radim is dedicated to raising the technical understanding of battle-tested fundamentals - SQL and PostgreSQL - proving that simple, reliable technology is the key to stability.
