A Talk about Internet Coordination: Netnod, Internetstiftelsen and ICANN

At this meeting you will get a unique chance to learn to know representatives of three institutions that coordinate key functions of the Internet: Netnod, Internetstiftelsen and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). You will learn what the technical roles of each entities are, what activities they do and what they don’t; how they coordinate their work and why Internet policy work is important.

Speaker:

David Huberman - joined ICANN in 2018. He currently sits in the Office of the Chief Technology Officer as the Regional Technical Engagement Manager for both North America and Europe. David has been in the internet engineering industry since 1999. Prior to joining ICANN, he was at companies such as Microsoft, Global Crossing, Oracle, and Telocity. He also spent 10 years as a staffer at ARIN. David graduated from Indiana University in 1996 with a bachelors of arts degree for a double major (telecommunications and geography). He lives with his family in Ashburn, Virginia, USA.

He holds an MSc in Engineering Physics from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm where he also worked as a Senior Systems Specialist, focusing on the operation of IP networks and Unix systems. Lars-Johan is an expert in DNS and an experienced speaker. He works globally with protocol specifications and management of the DNS system. Lars-Johan currently serves as chair of the Customer Standing Committee (CSC) at ICANN, which audits the work of Public Techinical Identifiers (PTI), the ICANN affiliate that, among other things, administrates that DNS root zone. At a more local level, he works with the planning of Netnod operations of infrastructure systems.
