Hack Your Beer with Machine Learning
The democratization of protein design now enables the rapid generation of new functional proteins using a simple laptop. In this talk, I will briefly discuss recent developments in the field of ML-based protein design. We will then explore some of the open-source and API-based models available online and demonstrate how they can be used at home. Using beer production as a case study, we will explore how these open-source models can be applied to hack fermentation yeast, to brew better, more nutritious beer.
Speaker:
Amijai Saragovi - is a protein designer at the Baker Lab. The Institute of Protein Design (IPD), Washington, USA. He holds a PhD in immunobiology from the Hebrew University and a BSc in Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies, the University of London. As a protein designer he is particularly interested in understanding and developing methods to design protein-inorganic hybrid materials, a technology that he believes could contribute to the development of sustainable electronics and batteries.
