This event will be an information session about the upcoming Hack Your Future program in Stockholm. No commitment is required, attendance is an expression of interest only. Although the program runs a certain way in other cities, we do not have to copy the structure exactly. We'd love for you to contribute your ideas.
HackYourFuture (HYF) is a code program teaching computer programming to newcomers. Our aim is to empower our students through coding and get them to work as software developers. The course has been developed by Hack Your Future Amsterdam and is available on Github here
Foo Café has been running HYF in Malmö for a year successfully. We believe there is a need for the program in Stockholm. That it could bring great opportunities to both newcomers and the tech industry here. We're currently searching for the mentors who'd like to get on board as volunteers.
The course is divided into 2-3 week units. Mentors commit to each section separately, teaching the class that unit's content alongside another mentor. Class takes up four hours on a sunday and mentors support students with their homework during the week over slack.
In Malmö we have four classes running concurrently, but we'll start small in Stockholm. Baraa Hatem, the project manager in Malmö, will come to Stockholm for the event to share her knowledge.
If this volunteer project sounds interesting to you, we'd love for you to come along.
