Nudging the Quality

Don’t miss this opportunity to listen to the talk Martin Pihl is going to hold at Eurostar, “Nudging the Quality”.

“One of the issues a test professional faces early in their career, and periodically afterwards (for instance when joining a new team) is, “How do I make myself heard and seen?” I myself have often made the assumption that in order for testing to be visible and quality to be focused on, you must take center stage. Do big things! Own the room!

But what if that’s wrong? What if instead you achieve the best results by doing small, almost imperceptible activities? This is a theory explored in the socio-economic concept of Nudge Theory. It “proposes positive reinforcement and indirect suggestions as ways to influence the behavior and decision-making of groups or individuals”.

I took the learnings that are expressed in this concept and applied it to the development process in different teams in my company, and “nudged” the teams towards a greater understanding of quality, and a larger shared responsibility for quality.”
