This is will be the first of a two part meetup. The first meetup will be a more basic level and the second meetup will cover more advanced information.
First Meetup: Bayesian Statistics and Inference by Bayesian Networks.
This session introduces the fundamentals of Bayesian statistics, the concepts of probability for single and two events, prior, likelihood and posterior. We proof the Bayes' Theorem and discuss its dyachronic interpretation (data vs hypothesis), then the concept of conjugate prior is illustrated. On the top of this notions we introduce bayesian networks and (hyper-)parameters' inference. The session is led by using Python notebooks which illustrate the practical implementations of the bayesians and the use of the PyMC3 module. No prior knowledge of statistics and/or advanced math is required.
Second Meetup: Physics-compatible Bayesian Inference in Biomedical Applications. COMING SOON!
About the presenter:
Fabio Garofalo, PhD Chem Eng Fabio has a BSc in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Chemical Engineering Processes. His background is about mathematics, physics and scientific coding. He have research experience as engineering physicist in the fields of microfluidics, polymer processing and modeling and experimental data analysis in acoustofluidics. He worked in collaboration with Dutch Polymer Institute and DSM (NL), and currently he has a collaboration with Acousort A/B. He was a former tutor for the courses of Research and Development in Chemical Engineering Processes and Optimization of Chemical Engineering Processes at the University of Rome "La Sapienza". He is interested in continuum mechanics, dynamical system theory, statistics and (critically) machine learning.
About the organizer:
My name is Philippe and I am the organizer of the Hand-on Data Science group in Malmö, Sweden. I started this group because I wanted to help everybody reduce the learning time it takes to develop data science skills. I come from the US and have lived in Sweden since 2012. I have a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Rutgers University and a master’s degree in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science from Lund University. I have worked as an analytical Chemist at Merck/Schering-Plough world headquarters in Kenilworth, New Jersey. I am employed by Sigma IT in data science.
